I wish that were true. Go here and watch the video of the high school seniors who took advantage of having the President's ear and gave him an earful. These kids are fabulous - they went in with a detailed knowledge of the issue and a strategy on how to conduct their discussion of it. I'm especially impressed by the young woman who brings up presidential signing statements in the interview, a topic most adults know little about.
I'm hesitant to lump these kids in with the "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" guy, who by his own admission was just going for a laugh, but I think this perfectly illustrates why that case was and is so important: they're trying to teach our kids at a young age that there are limits on what you can say and when you can say it. Combine that with the shoddy history instruction most children get and you'll end up with a generation that has no idea how fundamental the First Amendment is to our continuing to be a free and open society.
These high school students, who represent the "best and the brightest," understand that. All of us should, too.
