Today's missive, for your cut-and-paste pleasure:
Dear Madam Speaker:
It saddened me to read on The Nation’s blog that you remain firmly opposed to impeachment, because you fear it “would divide the country,” and you want to focus on “ending the war in Iraq, expanding health care, creating jobs and preserving the environment.”
While you worry about dividing the country, thousands of families are being divided, physically, emotionally, and in many cases permanently by this insane war. As for your other goals, which I share, it should be painfully obvious by now that none of these goals can be achieved with Bush in the White House. Your stated goals will be pushed even further out of reach should the Bush administration launch an attack against Iran.
You also state that the impeachment of President Clinton backfired on the Republicans. I would point out that Clinton was a popular, successful President. Bush is a criminal, unpopular failure. The circumstances are not the same.
Your term as Speaker will outlast Bush’s term as President. I recommend that you clear the main obstacle to your goals – President Bush - before attempting to achieve them.
Thank you for your time.
